IL VERBO PREFERIRE PRESENTE INDICATIVO

I PRONOMI DI TERZA PERSONA
The third person singular of the personal pronoun varies according to gender.
The third person singular pronouns:
• EGLI / LUI refer to a male person
• ELLA /LEI refer to a female person
• ESSO / ESSA refer to an animal or an object, but are seldom used
• the form LUI / LEI are used most frequently especially in the spoken language.

The third person plural pronouns are:
• LORO / ESSI refer to masculine people, animals or objects
• LORO / ESSE refer to feminine people, animals or objects .
• the forms ESSI / ESSE are only used in formal written texts.

The personal pronouns in the objective case are:
• LUI / LEI / LORO ➔ they are used following a preposition or when they come after the verb.
Ex.: Vai con lui. Ho chiamato lei.

• LO/LA/LI/LE ➔ direct object before the verb.
Ex.: La vedo. Le sento.

• GLI/LE ➔ indirect object.
Ex.: Gli parlo. Le scrivo.
Ex.: Io lo vedo. ➔ Io vedo lui. / Tu la conosci. ➔ Tu conosci lei.
Tu gli parli ➔ Tu parli a lui. / Noi le parliamo. ➔ Noi parliamo a lei.
